What is the differences 3 wire cable and 5 wire cable for string light?

We usually got the questions from some new customers about everything, and the most frequently asked question is about the 3-wire cable and 5-wire cable. And what the differences between them.

One word to answer this question is that the 5-wire cable smart string light, actually every string light works singly, and they will be controlled by make them in a group in the app and the Alexa or google assistant. but the 3 wire cable string light ,the just connect together by the plug and socket. The 3-wire cable string light cannot be extand to too long distance.

From the picture, it is easy to see that the control pannel, the white and black wires are connect to the power supply directly, then at the end of one string light ,there would be a receptacle that can supply the full power supplying to the next string light.

We can list some differences.

1. the 3-wire string light when you connect the next string light, you need to remove the control box on the following string lights. And the 5-wire string light don’t need to remove, just connect to the receptacle.
2. The 3-wire string light usually cannot be too long because the power supply the following string light would be limited by the control box pannel.
3. The 5-wire string light, at the end would be a receptacle, not just for the next string light, it also can be used as a receptacle for other electric devices.
4. The 3-wire string light when you connect to multi-string-lights, on the App or the alexa or google assitant, it would be one string light. But the 5-wire cable string light need to be set to a group of string lights. Then control them together. Also you can control them with different groups, they can be controlled sperately.
5. The connect methods are completely differnt, you can be easy to find the end of the string light.
